Christmas holidays can be long and cold, especially with the wet weather and the stress of Christmas. It can be hard to budget activities to keep the whole family busy in any holidays, but can be made tougher with the battle of British weather.

Whether you live in or out of Shropshire, we have put together a list of winter activities, featuring Shropshire’s finest.

1.Climbing The Walls, Shrewsbury

An indoor climbing centre that often runs events or club for children in the holidays. You are charged by the hour for climbing time and may need an induction before you climb for safety.

2. Exotic Zoo, Telford

A zoo full of fun animals such as Lemurs and Meerkats. With entry prices from £2.50 it makes it more affordable than larger zoos.

3. Home baking – gingerbread

Have a go at baking your own gingerbread over the holidays. You could even use our icing tutorials to help you – try the unicorn or the dinosaur.

4. Stiperstones Nature Reserve

Although winter can be cold, it is not an excuse not to go outside. Pack a picnic and a flask of soup and explore the countryside.

5. Bridgnorth Castle Hill Railway

A little bit of history in Bridgnorth. A short tram journey from the top to the bottom of town, can make for a great day out.

6. Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom, Telford

Hoo Farm offers a more hands on experience then The Exotic Zoo with animals such as sloths, meerkats, frogs and sheep.

7. Visit Market Drayton

The home of gingerbread and the home of Original Biscuit Bakers. Why not stop in at the Gingerbread Man pub, or Fordhall Organic Farm? See what the town has to offer.

8. Ludlow Castle

A lovely castle that is very well maintained. Many eateries around to chose from, as well as the castle cafe.

9. Coalport China Museum

A historical visit of the buildings where china was once made. Dating back to the start of the 20th century, there are displays that show the equipment and tools used. There are guided tours that are available also.

10. The Long Mynd

Another outdoor adventure with the reward of the views when you reach the highest point.
