Top Tips for Autumn Baking

The colours of the leaves are changing and the days are getting colder, it can only mean one thing… Autumn is here!

With the weather getting colder and the nights getting darker why not try out some new, comforting recipes to enjoy by the fire. Autumn is the season for baking so here are some top tips to ensure your bakes are the best.

1. Choose Seasonal Fruit

If you’re baking with fruit make sure it’s in season to guarantee the best flavours. Autumnal fruits are the best, choose from apples, damsons, plums, pears, pumpkins, cranberries and pomegranates.

2. Use Complimentary Spices

Autumn is the season for pumpkin spiced lattes, gingerbread houses and fruit pies. Nutmeg, five-spice, cloves, allspice, star anise and ginger are all amazing spices you can use to enhance your baking.

3. Choose Easy to Follow Recipes

Choosing simple recipes with minimal ingredients not only saves time but things are less likely to go wrong, producing delicious baked goods.

4. Add in Purees for Extra moisture

Purees from seasonal vegetables such as sweet potato, squash or pumpkin will add moisture to any baked goods. Two to four tablespoons of a puree can be safely added without having to do a substitution with other ingredients. Recipes can also be made healthier by swapping half of the butter or oil for a puree.
